Work With Us

If you are a patient, carer, or member of the public, and are interested in helping us design and manage our studies and share our findings, please contact us to find out how you can get involved as a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) representative.

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in research is “research carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ members of the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them” (https://www.nihr.ac.uk/patients-carers-and-the-public/i-want-to-help-with-research/).

At St Johns, we are keen to work in collaboration with patients, carers, and the public in the planning, designing, managing, conducting, dissemination and translation of our research.

PPI is important for a number of reasons, including:

1. Improving the quality and relevance of research, focussing on areas that patients consider to be important.
2. Helping to streamline research efforts, designing studies that participants are more likely to engage with.
3. Ensuring research findings are publicised in an effective and accessible way, ensuring the biggest impact to those who may benefit.

Ways in which PPI representatives have helped us on our studies:

Reviewing participant-facing study documents and information

Feedback on study proposals and design

Advising on strategies for sharing our study findings with the public

Sitting on trial management committees

All of our research studies incorporate PPI into their design, and we are always keen to engage with those interested in taking part.
